Life at the library will look a bit different this summer, but we hope to serve our community in a safe manner moving forward. We are following the recommendations of the Southwest Kansas Library System and area health officials in our plan to phase back in. We miss our patrons very much and are looking forward to seeing you all again very soon!
What is new at the library? We plan to start rolling out the free material carts starting May 11th to start getting some much-needed items back in your hands. You can also call to apply for a Kansas State Library eCard for FREE ebooks and audiobooks to download. May 18th, you can start calling for special material requests that will be delivered curbside from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. This phase will continue into June. We are hopeful that by July 1st we can comfortably open our doors to the public once again and programming/services can resume as normal. If you are needing to use a computer for work or school, please feel free to call to set up an appointment with us.
What can your child expect for the Summer Library Program this summer? Again, things will be different! This year’s theme is Imagine Your Story. Starting June 1st, we plan on preparing Grab & Go bags for children enrolled in the program. Pick up dates will be 10-11 a.m. Mondays and Tuesdays for Kindergarten through 5th grade and 10-11 a.m. and 1-2 p.m. Thursdays for Birth-PreK. Use the grade your child is coming out of this school year. Activities will encourage hands-on learning fun! Some examples of activities the children will get to do will be assembling time capsules, drawing/writing journals, gardening, and building creative craft kits. In addition, children will also have the opportunity to create and illustrate their own books. The children will be encouraged to read 20 minutes each day. Book bundles will be available on request for pickup. This will be a 4-week long program with a celebration in the beginning of July to reward our hardworking readers! Stay tuned for more details to come!
*Please call the library to enroll your child no later than Friday, May 22nd by 2:30 p.m. at 620-846-7032.
